I Love Homeschool Workboxes

I just received Joshua’s workbox in the mail from JoAnns.com and I love them.

If you are not sure what a workbox is you can check out the link here and take a look at the pictures below.

I couldn’t wait for the kids to go to bed so I can start putting it all together.  It was fairly easy since I can’t seem to put simple toys together for my kids. I was up until 1:30am getting all the finishing touches together so when Josh gets up he can see it in all it’s beautiful organized glory. I kinda think I was a bit more excited then him…it felt a little like Christmas, I just couldn’t wait to see the look in his face.  I made some Phineas and Ferb number tags for him and Josiah as well as some subject tags. Just a suggestion, you might want to laminate them.

You can download them here for free.  Also included is Perry, Candace, Stacy and Isabella. I hope you enjoy.

Phineas number tags

Ferb number tags

Perry number tags

Candace number tags

Stacy number tags

Isabella number tags

Subject workbox tags

Check Mark tags

I put a little surprise for Joshua to enjoy while we read books together.

I put check mark tags in the workbox and as Joshua completes his task he gets to stick it on next to his number. He loves it.

  1. Your setup looks awesome!

  2. Great job! Isn’t it so much fun to put these together?!?! I think I was more excited than my daughter, too. I like the surprise idea!

    Have a great week!

I love what you have done with this workbox. I’ve seen many, many workboxes, but never saw one I thought was aesthetically beautiful, until today.

There is something about this set up that is classy, while at the same time a kid would think it’s fun. I love the check mark tags. You have inspired me to work towards purchasing the components of this system and setting up two similar workboxes for my three daughters for next school year.

I would use one whole box for my second grader. Do you think that I could get away with using only one box for my Kindergarten twins? I could alternate their boxes or put their work together in each box. Thanks for posting this.

  6. HI…thanks for the comments. I do think you could use just one workbox for your twins. Are they boys, girls or one of each? Maybe make them different number cards for theirs. That way they know which one belongs to them. 5 for each child. They wouldn’t need more then that for K anyway. Hope that helps and let me know if I can help you with anything else!

  7. Found your blog through pinterest and I loved your idea for the check mark on the boxes rather than a number strip. I started it a few weeks ago with my son and he loves it! He also loves your Phineas and Ferb tags. Thanks for sharing them!

    HI
There is another cart/drawer organizer at JoAnns and is just colored drawers instead of these black ones. I am wondering how this set has held up for you, as the colored ones (Cropper Hopper) has tons of bad reviews saying the drawers slip out of place as they aren’t quite wide enough to stay on the tracks.

    • Hi…I wouldn’t buy it again. It does slip out of place. I am careful with it too, so I wouldn’t get it. I am going to look for something else for my boys for this upcoming year.

        Hello,
Thanks so much for the information about it slipping. I have been going back and forth trying to figure out what to use, one like yours or the Sterilite drawer towers. I am going with the the other because of bad reviews and what you had to say.

  9. I love the idea of workboxes…but really? $40-$90+ per cart? I have 5 boys to buy for (ok, one is a toddler, but still, lol!) That much is SO not in the budget, and it seems like so much to try out when i don’t even know if they will work out for my guys. Do you have any advice/links to cheaper options? TIA! =)

  10. Ikea has some organizers I have looked into. They come in different sizes and you can get the drawers/bins in different sizes/colors too. I like it because my youngest is still 18 months old and I could put manipulatives in a couple drawers and my biggers could use for workiboxing too, depending on how I design it.
My 10 yr old will probably still do this drawer system though…
